Did you ever want to bake your own bread? It is easier than you think.
Finally I full-filled one of my dreams. One I had ever since moving to the States. I really miss European grain breads which are filled with healthy grains, nuts, seeds and other wholesome ingredients. They are soo delicious!
No Resting Needed
Most recipes are time consuming and need several steps. A far cry from my philosophy, to cook and bake healthy, but easy foods.
So far I never wanted to spend extra time and headache making my own bread. I was worried my efforts would not be worth the outcome.
I got lucky during my last trip to Austria. Over a cup of coffee, a nice friend of a good friend did not mind sharing her previous bread baking experience. She said she had tried it all – bread machines, special ovens, different yeasts, resting and no resting of the dough. After years of trying, she has settled on one of her favorite recipes, easy and not time consuming at all! And the best part – she did not mind sharing it with me ;o)
Here it is!
2 Cups Whole Wheat Flour or Spelt Flour
10g Dry Yeast
2 Cups Warm Water
1/2 Cup Sunflower Seeds
1/2 Cup Chia Seeds
1/2 Cup Sesame Seeds
1/2 Cup Walnuts 1 1/2 Tbs Salt
Step No 1
Mix all dry ingredients together, then add warm water and knead to dough with your hand blender.
Step No 2
No need to set it aside and let the dough rest. Simply fill it into a pan which has a coat of oil and flour to avoid stickiness.
Step No 3
Bake it in the oven at 400F/ 200C for about 1 hour.
Step No 4
Take the loaf out of the pan and bake it for another 5-10 minutes.
I am loving it! It tastes the best when it is still warm and with any kind of bread spread like margarine, cream cheese or nutty butter on top of it.
