Flapjack Granola Bars – Made in Austria

Here is my super favorite 5-ingredient granola bar recipe. It’s my copy-cat version of a lovely bar I found in Austria last December.

Don’t we love simple recipes which do not ask for a long list of ingredients? If you feel the same then you are most likely going to love these bars as much as I do.

Every time I make a trip to Europe, I bring back some food. I always treasure everything and anything to make sure it lasts for a while. This one lay in my cabinet for 2 months before I was ready to eat it.

The wait was totally worth it – what a delicious flavor! I never had this specific type of oat bar before.

My first thought was that I have to try to bake them myself. Little did I know at that time that it really might be a very long time until I can buy one myself again…


3 Cups Old-Fashioned Oats
1 Cup Ground Hazelnuts – Almonds or walnuts
1/2 Cup Honey or Maple Syrup
3 Tbsp Cocoa
2 Tbsp Sesame or Sunflowerseeds Oil

Step 1
Blend all 5 ingredients in a large bowl.

Step 2
Spread out on medium sized pan lined with parchment paper. About 1/2 to 1 inch thick.

Step 3
Bake in oven at 350F for 15-20 minutes.

I played around with several different variations over the last months. They are also very yummie with an extra hint of cinnamon or chia seeds.

One time I left it in the oven for too long, and they got a little bit brittle. Since I usually eat them for breakfast, it was no big deal.

They are the perfect bar for a healthy snack because they keep you full for hours and don’t provide a sugar overload. My favorite way of eating them is with some Greek Yogurt and a banana.

You can store them in a closed container for several weeks.
